Thousands of race-goers used to pack the stands at Buckfastleigh Racecourse, which held its first race on 21 June 1883 and its final race on 27 August 1960. The main grandstand is still there. The relic of the old stand is overgrown, but in the course's heyday, people would stand here and watch the National Hunt races, which were over two mile and three miles, 418 yards. The dilapidated stand can be easily seen from the A38 just south of Buckfastleigh. These days the field is used for point-to-point meetings.
